Health Task Four | Cut out junk food
Health task four of this challenge is to cut junk food out of my diet completely. There is simply no reason left to eat this garbage; therefore, it needs to stop. My weight gain has already proven that it no longer serves me. I’ve shown before that I can quit it cold when I truly want to. I made it through most of Lent. Yet ever since then, everything has fallen apart; I lost all discipline, and everything has gone straight to hell.
The challenge to cut junk food out of my diet will bring me back to my true self.
I hope this challenge will finally push me to align my daily habits with the goals I claim to hold. The person I am meant to become is marked by discipline and driven by faith. Therefore, eating for convenience, comfort, and the addiction to gluttony will never do me any good. The temporary sugar rush only leads to the inevitable crash. Steady consistency of healthy habits is what I need to succeed.
Working-class Irish didn’t experience my reality of being overweight; that was for the rich. I am far from being rich anytime soon. They ate one dessert after dinner on a Sunday to celebrate the Sabbath day. They looked forward to it as a good end to the work week. I did this as a child; however, I have lost my way in a lot of things and have broken a lot of habits I once had. Therefore, it is time to get back to my roots, be disciplined with my eating habits and stay true to who I am, instead of this version.
In the end, the strength to uphold this vow does not rest solely on willpower. The Irish people drew deeply upon their Catholic faith, which guided them to rise, even in the face of overwhelming odds. This steadfast faith served as their foundation, empowering them to endure hardships and fight for their beliefs. Therefore, I must also lean on that same faith, drawing strength from it to overcome the smaller rebellions that stir within myself. This part of the challenge provides the opportunity to face my reality and to live each day as a disciplined soldier of God.
Philippians 3:19: "Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things."
