Discipline Is The Price Of The Life I Want
Goals and aspirations are easy to have, but without discipline, they remain nothing more than dreams.
I know this because my own discipline is slipping. I’m barely dragging myself out of bed in time for work, my evenings have zero structure, and doom scrolling has become my only real habit. Instead of building the life I want, I’m choosing comfort and convenience every single day, and it’s making me feel like a failure. I’m bored, unhappy, and tired of it.
Stepping into the future means leaving that version of me behind, even when the progress feels slow and painfully dull. Because the truth is simple: without discipline, life unravels and our potential collapses with it.
The current me doesn’t desire structure.
I crave comfort. The old me wants to feed her addictions, do the bare minimum, and still somehow magically achieve more. I’ve questioned this path for years, but I've chosen to continue Down the same route. However, I’m finally ready to move forward. I’m bored, unhappy, and deeply tired of the life I’m living.
No one wants to look back and realise they spent their free time looking at a screen and doomscrolling into the void. Instead, I could have been walking the dogs, building something with my hands, or creating something meaningful. Anything other than mindlessly wasting another evening.
My future self desperately needs discipline.
I want real growth, and that means building strict habits. Structure means, I’ll be in bed by 10 p.m. and wake at 6 a.m, so I win the day from the start. It creates a need to be in control, rather than to already be playing catch-up, as soon as I wake. The evenings belong to me again, through tasks that maintain the home and hobbies that provide purpose beyond work. To fitness that will completely rewire my outlook into training for the life that I want to achieve.
These small, repeated acts of discipline force me to face the things I usually avoid. Slowly with time, those disciplined actions will reshape how I think, how I spend my evenings, and who I’m becoming, pulling me out of this rut and into a completely different life. It won't be easy at first, but one small, disciplined decision at a time creates a version of me waiting on the other side. One who no longer wants to escape from reality. Turning me into someone stronger, calmer, and prouder of how I spend my time. I am worth it.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27:
Compares the spiritual life to an athletic race, emphasising the need for strict training, self-control, and the discipline of the body.
